Dresden, 28 avril 2013 – Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu, de St-Constant, au Québec, a obtenu une deuxième médaille en fin de semaine et Peter Thach Mai, de Montréal, est aussi monté sur le podium, dimanche, alors que le Canada a conclu la Compétition internationale jeunesse de plongeon avec cinq médailles.
Caeli McKay, de Calgary, a gagné la médaille de bronze au tremplin féminin d’un mètre chez les 14-15 ans, jeudi, Courtney Hattie et Emily Schmidt, de Victoria, ont aussi terminé troisièmes au tremplin synchronisé féminin ouvert de trois mètres, vendredi, et Citrini-Beaulieu a obtenu la médaille d’argent au tremplin d’un mètre chez les 16-18 ans, samedi.
Dimanche, au tremplin féminin de trois mètres chez les 16-18 ans, Alena Khamulkina, de Russie, a remporté la médaille d’or avec 418,10 points. Laura Bilotta, d’Italie, a terminé deuxième avec 418,00 et Citrini-Beaulieu a aussi été dans la course pour la médaille d’or en étant la suivante avec 416,85.
«Il y a eu quelques erreurs techniques que j’aimerais recommencer, mais globalement cela s’est bien passé, a dit Citrini-Beaulieu. Je suis particulièrement satisfaite aussi de voir une grande amélioration dans mon plongeon renversé.»
Hattie a terminé cinquième avec 382,75 points.
Au tremplin masculin d’un mètre chez les 14-15 ans, Yury Nauroza, de la Biélorussie, a terminé premier avec 405,90 points. Matthew Lee, d’Angleterre, a terminé deuxième avec 404,85 et Mai troisième avec 399,40. Félix Leathead, de Montréal, s’est classé huitième.
«Je suis satisfait de ma performance, a dit Mai. Le tremplin d’un mètre est ma meilleure épreuve et j’y visais une médaille.»
Dylan Grisell, d’Etobicoke, en Ontario, a terminé septième à la tout de 10 mètres chez les 16-18 ans.
CANADIAN DIVERS END YOUTH MEET WITH FIVE MEDALS
Dresden, April 28th 2013 – Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of St-Constant, Que., earned a second medal this weekend and Peter Thach Mai of Montreal added a podium finish on Sunday as Canada concluded the International Youth Diving Meet with five medals.
Caeli McKay of Calgary won bronze in the women’s 14-15 age group one-metre on Thursday, Courtney Hattie and Emily Schmidt of Victoria were also third in the open women’s three-metre synchro event on Friday and Citrini-Beaulieu took silver on the 16-18 one-metre Saturday.
On Sunday, on women’s 16-18 three-metre, Alena Khamulkina of Russia took the gold at 418.10. Laura Bilotta of Italy was second at 418.00 and Citrini-Beaulieu was in the gold medal hunt as well following at 416.85.
“There were a couple of technical errors I would have liked back but overall it went well,” said Citrini-Beaulieu. “I was particularly pleased too see a big improvement on my reverse dive.”
Hattie was fifth at 382.75.
On men’s 14-15 one-metre, Yury Nauroza of Belarus placed first at 405.90, Matthew Lee of Britain was second at 404.85 and Mai third at 399.40. Felix Leathead of Montreal was eighth.
“I was happy with my performance,” said Mai. “The one-metre is my best event and I was aiming for a medal here.”
Dylan Grisell of Etobicoke, Ont., was seventh on 16-18 10-metre.
