Pékin, le 15 mars 2013 – Les médaillées olympiques de bronze Roseline Filion, de Laval, au Québec, et Meaghan Benfeito, de Montréal, ont remporté la médaille d’argent à la tour synchronisée féminine de 10 mètres, vendredi, lors de la première étape du circuit de la Série mondiale de plongeon de la FINA.
Ruolin Chen et Huixia Liu, de Chine, ont été les gagnantes avec 351,78 points. Benfeito et Filion ont suivi avec 316,71 et Yulia Koltunova et Natalia Goncharova, de Russie, ont terminé troisièmes avec 316,56. Chen a été championne olympique l’an dernier et a concouru avec une nouvelle partenaire vendredi.
Les Canadiennes ont reçu de fortes notes pour leurs plongeons avant et renversé au début de la finale. Elles ont reçu des évaluations partagées pour leurs deux plongeons suivants et ont terminé avec un solide plongeon avec vrilles pour grimper de la troisième à la deuxième place.
Au tremplin synchronisé féminin de trois mètres, Jennifer Abel, de Laval, et Pamela Ware, de Beloeil, au Québec, ont terminé cinquièmes. Ce partenariat en est à sa première année pour Abel et Ware. La saison dernière, Abel a gagné la médaille olympique de bronze dans cette épreuve avec Émilie Heymans.
Abel et Ware ont impressionné les juges avec leur synchronisme, mais c’est au niveau de leur exécution qu’elles ont reçu des notes dures.
La championne olympique Minxia Wu et sa nouvelle partenaire Tingmao Shi, de Chine, ont été les gagnantes. Alicia Blagg et Rebecca Gallantree, d’Angleterre, ont terminé deuxièmes et Olena Fedorova et Anna Pysmenka, d’Ukraine, troisièmes.
La Série mondiale de la FINA est passée de quatre à six étapes cette saison et est réservée aux plongeurs classés parmi les huit premiers au monde dans chaque épreuve.
La compétition se poursuivra samedi. Abel participera au tremplin féminin individuel de trois mètres.

FILION AND BENFEITO WIN SILVER AT DIVING WORLD SERIES
Beijing, March 15th 2013 – Olympic bronze medallists Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal won silver in the women’s 10-metre synchro event on Friday to open the first stop on the FINA World Series diving circuit.
Ruolin Chen and Huixia Liu of China were the winners with 351.78 points, Benfeito and Filion followed at 316.71 and Yulia Koltunova and Natalia Goncharova of Russia third at 316.56. Chen was the Olympic champion last year and competed with a new partner Friday.
The Canadians received strong marks on their inward and reverse dives to open the final. They received mixed reviews on their next two dives and finished with a solid twisting dive to climb from third to second spot.
In the women’s three-metre synchro Jennifer Abel of Laval and Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., took fifth spot. This is a first-year partnership for Abel and Ware. Last season season Abel won the Olympic bronze medal in the event with Emilie Heymans.
Abel and Ware impressed the judges with their synchronization but it was on their execution that they were hit hard on the scoreboard.
Olympic champ Minxia Wu and new partner Tingmao Shi of China were the winners with Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree of Britain second and Olena Fedorova and Anna Pysmenka of Ukraine third.
The FINA World Series has expanded from four to six-stops this season and is reserved for the top-ranked eight divers in the world in each event.
Competition continues Saturday. Abel competes on women’s individual three-metre.
