Pékin, le 16 mars 2013 – Jennifer Abel, de Laval, au Québec, a gagné la médaille d’argent, samedi, au tremplin individuel féminin de plongeon dans la première étape du circuit de la Série mondiale de plongeon de la FINA.
He Zi, de Chine, a gagné la médaille d’or avec 395,65 points. Abel a suivi avec 335,20 et Tania Cagnotto, d’Italie, a terminé troisième avec 330,70.
Abel a produit une performance constante avec une note moyenne de 7,5 des juges pour tous ses cinq plongeons dans la finale. Cagnotto a été également constante et la différence pour la médaille d’argent a été qu’Abel a obtenu des notes légèrement supérieures à celles de l’Italienne lors de trois plongeons.
Plus tôt samedi, Abel a gagné sa demi-finale avec une performance semblable avec 339,75 points pour se classer deuxième en tout avant la finale de la soirée.
La Série mondiale de la FINA est passée de quatre à six étapes cette saison et est réservée aux plongeurs classés parmi les huit premiers au monde dans chaque épreuve.
La compétition se terminera dimanche. Roseline Filion, de Laval, et Meaghan Benfeito, de Montréal, participeront à la tour individuelle de 10 mètres. Filion et Benfeito ont gagné la médaille d’argent, vendredi, à la tour synchronisée de 10 mètres.

JENNIFER ABEL WINS SILVER AT DIVIING WORLD SERIES
Beijing, March 16th 2013 – Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., won the silver medal on Saturday in the women’s individual three-metre at the first stop on the FINA World Series diving circuit.
He Zi of China took the gold with 395.65 points, Abel followed at 335.20 and Tania Cagnotto of Italy was third at 330.70.
Abel produced a consistent performance averaging 7.5’s from the judges on all her five dives in the final. Cagnotto was equally consistent and the difference for silver was Abel scoring slightly higher than the Italian on three dives.
Earlier Saturday, Abel won her semifinal heat with a similar performance totaling 339.75 points to stand second overall heading into the evening final.
The FINA World Series has expanded from four to six-stops this season and is reserved for the top-ranked eight divers in the world in each event.
Competition ends Sunday. Roseline Filion of Laval and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal compete in the individual 10-metre tower. Filion and Benfeito took silver on Friday in the 10-metre synchro.
