Winnipeg, le 26 février 2013 – Le Revolution Diving Club de Winnipeg accueillera, cette semaine, les meilleurs plongeurs du Canada aux championnats nationaux seniors d’hiver 2013. La compétition aura lieu à la Piscine Pan-Am du 28 février au 3 mars 2013.
Winnipeg possède une longue tradition d’organisation remontant aux épreuves de plongeon aux Jeux panaméricains de 1967. Au cours de la dernière décennie, la Piscine Pan-Am a accueilli cinq championnats nationaux de plongeon et plus spécialement les essais olympiques de 2004.
Le tout nouveau Revolution Diving Club se mettra en évidence avec ses tout premiers championnats nationaux. L’entraîneur-chef Dallas Ludwick est excitée par l’occasion et sait que le club fera en sorte que la collectivité canadienne de plongeon se sentira chez-elle à Winnipeg.
«Il est très excitant pour Revolution d’accueillir les meilleurs plongeurs canadiens dans notre ville et notre piscine, dit Ludwick. Nous croyons que nos bénévoles et notre personnel organiseront une compétition de première classe et que les athlètes présenteront des performances incroyables», a ajouté Ludwick.
33 plongeurs de 8 clubs sont inscrits et viseront les huit titres nationaux.
Les médaillées olympiques de 2012 Jennifer Abel (21, Laval, QC), Meaghan Benfeito (23, Montréal, QC) et Roseline Filion (25, Laval, QC), ainsi que leur coéquipier olympique de 2012 François Imbeau-Dulac (22, Saint-Lazare, QC) seront parmi les concurrents. Les autres membres de l’équipe nationale senior, incluant Pamela Ware (20, Beloeil, QC), Carol-Ann Ware (22, Beloeil, QC), Rachel Kemp (20, Victoria, C.-B.), Emma Friesen (24, North Vancouver, C.-B.), Celina Toth (20, St. Thomas, ON), Nicholas Beaupré (18, Longueuil, QC), Maxim Bouchard (22, St-Constant, QC) et Cody Yano (21, Edmonton, AB), seront présents.
La plongeuse locale de Winnipeg et athlète-étudiante présentement à l’Université d’Hawaii, Aimee Harrison, (18) représentera la ville hôtesse.
En plus des médailles des championnats nationaux, les athlètes se feront la lutte pour être inclus dans les équipes nationales qui représenteront le Canada dans différentes compétitions dans le circuit du Grand Prix de la FINA 2013, incluant la Coupe Canada, du 2 au 5 mai 2013 à Gatineau, au Québec.
« Nous avons hâte de voir les plongeurs alors qu’ils se préparent pour la prochaine période quadriennale, dit Mitch Geller, le directeur technique deDiving Plongeon Canada. Ils ont des objectifs très clairs en ce qui concerne ce qu’ils doivent réussir pour qu’ils puissent se positionner parmi les principaux concurrents sur la scène mondiale.»
Portes ouvertes médiatiques
Les médias sont invités à assister à une session portes ouvertes à la Piscine Pan-Am (25 Poseidon Bay) le mercredi 27 février de 9h à 13h. Des occasions d’images et d’entrevues seront disponibles sur demande.
Information sur les billets
La compétition aura lieu de jeudi à dimanche de 10h à 15h. Les prix des billets sont 5$ par jour ou 10$ pour un laissez-passer et sont disponibles à l’entrée ou par le biais du Revolution Diving Club. L’entrée pour les enfants 10 ans et moins est gratuite.

TOP CANADIEN DIVERS TO COMPETE IN WNNIPEG AT THE 2013 WINTER SENIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Winnipeg, February 26th, 2013 – Winnipeg’s Revolution Diving Club will play host this week to the top divers in Canada at the 2013 Winter Senior National Championships. The event takes place at the Pan Am Pool, February 28th – March 3rd, 2013.
Winnipeg possesses a long hosting tradition in dating back to the diving events at the 1967 Pan American Games. Throughout the last decade, the Pan Am Pool has housed five national diving championships, and more notably, the 2004 Olympic Trials. The newly formed Revolution Diving Club will be stepping up to run their first-ever national championship. Head Coach Dallas Ludwick is excited for the opportunity and knows that the club will make the Canadian diving communityfeel at home in Winnipeg.
“It is very exciting for Revolution to host all of Canada’s best divers in our city and at our pool”, says Ludwick. “We are confident that our volunteers and staff will run a first class meet, and that the athletes will deliver incredible performances” added Ludwick.
33 divers from 8 clubs are registered and will be vying for 8 national championships.

Local Winnipeg diver, and current University of Hawaii student-athlete, Aimee Harrison, (18) will be representing the host city.
In addition to national championship medals, the athletes will be competing for inclusion on national teams thatwill represent Canada at various events on the 2013 FINA Grand Prix circuit, including the Canada Cup, May 2nd to May 5th 2013, inGatineau, Quebec.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the divers as they re-set their sights on the upcoming quadrennial,” says Mitch Geller, Chief Technical Officer of Diving Plongeon Canada. “They have very clear goals in terms of what they need to achieve so that they can position themselves as leading contenders on the world stage.”

Media are invited to attend an open house at the Pan Am Pool (25 Poseidon Bay) on Wednesday, February 27th from 9am to 1:00pm. Images and interview opportunities will be available upon request.
Ticketing information
The competition runs Thursday-Sunday from 10 am to 3:00 pm. Tickets are $5 per day, or $10 for an event pass and are available at the door or through the Revolution Diving Club. Admission for children 10 & under is free.
